Leather sofa & my new kitten?

i have just got a kitten. the problem is, i dont want her walking on my sofa incase she claws it by accident so i was thinking of buying spray that discourages her to go on it but i still want her to cuddle up with me. will it make her not sit with me & will it mean everytime i want a cuddle im banished to the floor. i dont want to give her missed messages but i still want her to cuddle up. what should i do? i have got a scratch post & lots of toys, im not talking about her scratching it to sharpen her claws, i just mean if shes walking on it & maybe goes goes to fall so she scratches the sofa to hold on. Any help would be grateful. thanz
