Mixed signals from him but he likes someone else?

Ok so I kinda started talking to this guy I like. My friend had told me stuff about him possibly liking me. Last year, he had called me 'hot' and 'damn pretty' and he used to ask about me a lot and if I really liked his brother(i used to have a major crush on his bro last year) Also, I caught him checking me out at a school event last weekend. Sometimes he really does behave like he likes me (in his actions I mean). I have never flirted with him or dropped any hints that I may like him,though I did talk to him. But recently he has been hanging out with a distant friend of mine(like the type of friend you say hi and bye to and talk a little bit to.) And they're always together. I once heard my pal teasing her about it and likewise for his pals. But the day I saw him checking me out was the day I saw him with her for the first time. I wanted to add him on fb too lol but I think it would be a little stalkerish...do you think there's a chance he still likes me but isn't gonna wait around until I flirt back or something? Or has he moved on or is he trying to make me jealous? I really do like him and I can talk to him as a friend but its just hard for me to flirt or drop hints that I like him. Plus, I don't want to come off as a ***** especially when I know this girl likes him and he may like her too..... :(
