Please somebody help with a question on crystal systems & symmetry?

Each crystal system has a a symmetry that the each cl within must possess. For instance, the cubic system dictates four 3-fold axes. My question is does the "compulsory" symmetry axes always equate to the crystallogrpahic axes (in terms of lengths and angles) which define each system unit cells?
